Firebase
Firebase is Google's app development platform, combining a document database (Firestore), user logins, hosting and server functions, with a strong focus on mobile apps.
What it means in practice
Firebase saves a lot of build time on mobile apps that need offline sync and live updates, and its free tier covers 50,000 document reads a day and 50,000 monthly active users for logins.
Firestore stores data as documents, so reporting across customers and orders is harder than in Postgres and moving off it later means reshaping the data. Marshall Tech weighs that trade before choosing it for a client build.
Where this shows up in our work
We apply Firebase across these services when we build for Australian businesses.
