Self-hosting
Self-hosting is running software on servers you control, rather than using the vendor's hosted version, which gives full control over data, cost and configuration.
What it means in practice
Open-source tools such as Supabase, Payload and Medusa can all be self-hosted, which caps long-term cost and keeps the data in your hands. The price is the upkeep: updates, backups and security patches become your team's job.
Marshall Tech starts most clients on hosted plans and self-hosts once scale or data requirements make it worthwhile.
